Abstract:

:This report is the first in a series of publications resulting from the comprehensive effort being undertaken by the Food and Nutrition Board's Committee on the Scientific Evaluation of Dietary Reference Intakes and its panels and subcommittees. The history and rationale behind the development of the Dietary Reference Intakes are discussed.
