Screening the healthy subject.

Abstract:

:Screening tests may help or harm the healthy subject and, therefore, must be selected and used carefully. Criteria for selection include characteristics of the disease(s), of the potential screening tests, and of the population(s) to be screened. An understanding of methods used to evaluate tests will allow the investigator and the clinician to set realistic expectations for test performance in different clinical settings.
