Abstract:
:It has recently been shown that RNA from the bottom component of cowpea mosaic virus is capable of self-replication in cowpea mesophyll protoplasts, providing a tool for the investigation of the contribution of each RNA strand toward viral multiplication. Evidence is presented here, using this system, to show that the genome-linked protein is coded by the RNA from the bottom component. As the replicase function is coded by this RNA, the results remain consistent with the involvement of the genome-linked protein in viral RNA replication.
