Problems of chemotherapy in multiply-infected AIDS patients.

Abstract:

:Potential multiple opportunistic infections in patients with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) cause the clinician considerable problems. Firstly there is the problem of the correct diagnosis of which organism is producing symptoms and there is the possibility of more than one organism being responsible. Secondly when multiple drug therapy is used in AIDS patients it is likely to result in a number of adverse effects. These may be expected as part of the toxic profile of the drug but also may result from unexpected interactions, or exacerbations of underlying problems in individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus.
