Abstract:
OBJECTIVES:To discuss current long-term follow-up management, the need for a long-term database, and creative strategies for follow-up care for cancer survivors. DATA SOURCES:Published articles, position statements, and personal experience. CONCLUSIONS:As the number of long-term cancer survivors increases, there needs to be a wellness-focused and organized approach to long-term follow-up care. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE:The responsibility for developing, implementing, evaluating, and following up with long-term cancer survivors remains with the oncology and family practice staff.
