Legal considerations surrounding cosmetic surgery.

Abstract:

:Oral and maxillofacial surgeons may not be able to prevent complications from occurring but have significant control over enhancing quality communication with their patients. Surgeons who take the time to focus on detailed communications will most often not find themselves embroiled in protracted litigation. This article presents practical views from the trenches on issues of past history, informed consent, preparation for a case, documentation, postoperative actions, complications, and patient refunds and releases.
