Abstract:

:Public Health Observatories are a new phenomenon in the United Kingdom and Ireland. However, similar institutions have been operating in other countries for many years. The nature and development of PHOs in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are described, and how they are supporting the growing public health movement in Europe is considered.
