Tardive dyskinesia: special risk in the elderly.

Abstract:

:Tardive dyskinesia has emerged as a considerable public health hazard. In view of the overwhelming evidence that the elderly are particularly susceptible to this complication of neuroleptic use and the fact that there is no really effective treatment, neuroleptics should be avoided whenever possible in elderly patients.
