Issues in the diagnosis and treatment of adolescents in a general hospital inpatient unit.

Abstract:

:The treatment of adolescents in a general hospital setting is fraught with difficulty. There are significant limitations to time, space, finances, and the physical plant. There are limitations to the numbers, types, mix of patients with other patients, and the types of treatment available. To deal with these issues, a comprehensive outline of a systems approach to adolescents in a general hospital is described, a matrix format for diagnosis is offered, and a matching treatment plan is delineated.
