Indications of implantable defibrillator.

Abstract:

:Implantable cardioverter defibrillators are devices capable of detecting and terminating ventricular tachycardias or fibrillations. They are utilized in the treatment of severe ventricular tachyarrhythmias, and their efficacy in the prevention of sudden death is demonstrated. As a matter of fact, despite the new antiarrhythmics available, and despite nonpharmacological therapies like radiofrequency ablation or surgery, the prognosis of such tachyarrhythmias remains serious.
