Spontaneous regression of neurogenic heterotopic ossification.

Abstract:

:A description is given of an unusual case of a 13 year old girl who showed complete regression of neurogenically induced heterotopic ossification following recovery from her head injury. The case report indicates that heterotopic ossification is not necessarily permanent following neurological disturbance, but may be a reversible condition resulting from temporary neurological stress. The cause of heterotopic ossification is not known and the detrimental effect of misapplied physiotherapy is considered.
