Nurses' perceptions of gross self-neglect amongst older people living in the community.

Abstract:

:Self-neglect in older people has an established medical literature but receives surprisingly little attention in the nursing literature. Hospital and community nurses were interviewed using a semistructured questionnaire. All the nurses were able to identify patients who had shown features of 'gross self-neglect'. Poor nutrition was a prominent feature: links with the literature are explored.
