Abstract:
:Factors influential in the occurrence and timing of heart attacks are summarised. Patients' and partners' experiences of heart attack are reviewed. Evidence is presented for the efficacy and effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation programmes. A three elemental model for cardiac rehabilitation is introduced. Key recommendations are made for hospitals running cardiac rehabilitation programmes. Directions for the future development of cardiac rehabilitation are suggested
