Radiographic patterns of PLH/LIP in HIV positive children.

Abstract:

:A retrospective study was performed of the radiographic patterns of the lungs in children being followed in the Children's Hospital Aids Program (CHAP). The most consistent finding was a diffuse reticulonodular pattern in the lungs. In addition, lung consolidation, either isolated or in combination with nodules, was noted. There was variation in presentation of the nodules, and prominent linear patterns were frequently encountered. Biopsy specimens of the lungs of these patients demonstrated a correlation between the presence of PLH/LIP and the various radiographic patterns. The lymphoid infiltration of PLH was occasionally observed in a circumferential peri-bronchiolar pattern suggesting an association with the prominent linear patterns on the films.
