Barium enema findings in a case of Langerhans cell histiocytosis involving the colon.

Abstract:

:Gastrointestinal (GI) tract involvement in Langerhans cell histiocytosis is probably not uncommon [1,2], but reports of radiologic findings have been limited to the small intestine and mesenteric lymph nodes [3-5]. We report a 16-month-old child with known Langerhans cell histiocytosis, who was found to have mucosal irregularities of the colon as seen on air contrast barium enema, and was subsequently found to have diffuse involvement of the colon histologically confirmed by multiple biopsies.
