Commentary: creating research capacity in complementary medicine.

Abstract:

:A House of Lords Report recently recommended the creation of 'centres of excellence' for research into complementary medicine. The UK government decided not to follow this advice but to sponsor nine research fellowships each supervising a PhD student. An analysis of past researchers at the unit in Exeter suggest that 'centres of excellence' are an effective means of generating research capacity in this area. It is suggested that this approach is likely to be more productive than the present governmental strategy.
